MTR Gaming Group, Inc. is in the entertainment business with gaming as one component of our diverse offerings. MTR promotes gaming as a recreational activity for those individuals who do not have a problem with responsible gaming. The company recognizes that compulsive gaming is a psychiatric disorder and can affect a small percentage of our guests. We as a corporation are proactive in our efforts to curtail compulsive activities through such actions as management exclusions; providing educational material on problem gambling to our guests; and educating our employees on how to recognize problem gamblers and refer them to the Problem Gamblers Helpline for assistance. We are actively involved in the West Council on Problem Gambling, a group formed to support the activities of the Problem Gambler's Help Network, with our Director of Public Relations currently serving as the Council's Vice President.
The West Virginia Lottery may provide a maximum of $1.5 million to the administrative agency, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, for the Compulsive Gambling Treatment Fund. In fiscal year 2005 and fiscal year 2006, the West Virginia Lottery Commission approved the maximum funding to the program. |
