CHESTER, WV – Only two weeks after poker tables made their initial debut at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort, slot play has already increased 13.6 percent over play this time last year. An increase in slot play was anticipated due to the additional visitors to Mountaineer´s as a result of the addition of table gaming. Mountaineer opened its poker room featuring 37 tables on October 19 and realized a 46 percent increase in poker play the following weekend.

“Those numbers are especially encouraging given the fact that we have not yet marketed our poker rooms,” said Ted Arneault, Mountaineer´s president & CEO. “It was only through our news releases and word of mouth that the public learned of the opening of our poker rooms.” Mountaineer had awaited formal approval from the West Virginia Lottery Commission which came on October 18 prior to announcing the opening of the Poker Rooms the next day.

“We are now preparing to launch a comprehensive marketing program to promote not only our poker rooms, but the diverse entertainment and resort amenities which Mountaineer offers,” said Arneault.
