CHESTER, WV – Racing fans at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort have seen some significant changes in the past month. Purses at the West Virginia thoroughbred track were recently increased by more than 10 percent, according to Mountaineer’s Director of Racing Rosemary Williams.

Purses at Mountaineer have benefited from video lottery revenue since passage of the Racetrack Video Lottery Act in 1994. Purses at Mountaineer will also benefit from receipt of racetrack table gaming revenue. According to Williams, Mountaineer opened its Poker Room on October 18 with Craps, Roulette and Blackjack slated to open the first of the year.

A third simulcast parlor debuted October 19 at Mountaineer. A 3,000-square-foot parlor recently opened in the newly renovated and climate-controlled grandstand area. The parlor features 120 carrels, all equipped with televisions as well as a wall of televisions where fans can view more than 30 thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racetracks from throughout the nation.

Adding to the convenience of the new parlor is the relocation of the program stand in close proximity to the parlor. Bettors also now have the convenience of self-service terminals.

“The recent enhancements to our racing program have been very favorably received and are indicative of Mountaineer’s continued commitment to both our racing product and our racing fans,” said Williams.
