CHESTER, WV – An IBC World Title Bout combined with a night of heavyweights will be on the agenda at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort on August 23 when world class boxing comes to the Grande Ballroom.
Verquan Kimbrough , 17-1-1 (7 KOs) of Aliquippa, PA, will get a second shot at a World Title in a Lightweight bout against Rodney "Pit Bull" Jones, 27-6 (13 KOs) of Little Rock, AR. Jones is coming off two wins and is no stranger to Mountaineer having lost a 10-round decision to Paul Spadafora in 2000.
Kimbrough has been training in Las Vegas and has been working with Floyd Mayweather, Sr., Roger Mayweather and Mike McCallum.
At 6'& 7" 259 lbs., Michael Grant will face 7' 1" 270 lb. Julius Long in what promises to be a "Battle of the Giants." Long, 15-8 (13 KOs) of Detroit, MI, is pitted against former IBC World title holder Grant. Grant has wins over Lou Savareese and Andrew Golota and KO'd Billy Zumbrun 21-8 in June 2007.
Two other heavy weight contests are on the card.
Brian "the Beast" Minto 27-2 (16 KOs) of Butler, PA, will battle Ray Lunsford, 19-7 (7 KOs) of Coldwater, MS, in an eight-round bout. Minto knocked out German legend Axel Shutz 26-4-1. Chris Koval 23-3 (18 KOs) of Youngstown, OH, will face Chad Van Sickle (12 KOs) of Columbus, OH, in an six-round bout.
Three amateur stars from Cleveland will be making their debuts: Terrence Miller, welterweight; Darrell Moore, cruiserweight; and Jesse Tucker, featherweight.
Tickets are $100 - platinum; $50 - gold and $30 - reserved and are available through Ticketmaster or on site at the Downtown Speakeasy Roarin 20's Department.
