CHESTER, WV — Walter Aho's life changed forever when he hit a jackpot of over $2 million at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort in Chester, WV last night (October 6.) The Fowler, Ohio resident won $2,143,008.45 on Ca$hola, a multi-state, progressive video lottery game offered at approved racetracks in Delaware, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
The 47-year-old Aho won the largest jackpot ever in Ca$hola's history. And, his big win couldn't have happened a better time in Aho's life. The 28 1/2-year employee of RMI Titanium of Niles, Ohio has faced tough financial times. In the past he has endured a six-month strike and a 14-month lockout and he now has the responsibility of a 19-year-old son in college at Youngstown State University.
"This feels fantastic and it comes at just the right time in my life," said Aho. "The higher powers look out after you."
Aho, who won his life-altering jackpot playing TREASURES OF AVALON, a Spielo Game, has the option of receiving his jackpot in either a single lump sum payment or in an annuity that will be paid in twenty payments over a 19-year period. Due to the multi-jurisdictional nature of the Ca$hola game jackpot prize, payment will be made approximately two weeks after the prize claim.
Ca$hola was initiated in July 2006. Jackpots start at $250,000 and can progress to millions. Ca$hola is the first multi-state progressive video lottery game to be offered in the United States. The first jackpot won in the game's short history was a $708,558 (annuity) hit at Lincoln Park in Providence, Rhode Island. The winner elected to take an immediate cashout option of $454.319.
"We are thrilled that the $2.1 million winning Ca$hola ticket was won at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort," said John Musgrave, acting secretary of the West Virginia Department of Revenue and Lottery director. "West Virginia has created the first Ca$hola millionaire in this exciting progressive jackpot video lottery game, and we look forward to many more."
"We congratulate Mr. Aho and wish him well as he enjoys his winnings," said Ted Arneault, Mountaineer president and CEO. "The potential to win tremendous jackpots through this multi-state progressive game offers our guests a tremendous opportunity to win big at Mountaineer."
