CHESTER, WV — Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort stepped up to the plate to ensure the Northern Panhandle Baseball Association was able to conduct a 2006 baseball season. The Baseball Association incurred severe damage to the fields, dugouts and the concession stand due to the 2004 and 2005 flooding. As a result of that damage the Association was unable to have a 2005 season for its players.
Patrick Arneault, vice president of development for Mountaineer, tossed out the first ball to kick off a season made possible by Mountaineer's generosity. A total of $45,865.43 in materials, equipment and labor was donated by Mountaineer.
This included $14,542.18 for new wood on the bleachers, new roof on all dugouts and the concession stand, new plumbing in the concession stand and restrooms, new water heater, new electric panel board and concession stand wiring, painting of the concession stand and dugouts, reseeding the outfield, and installing safety fence guard. Mountaineer donated its construction crews to complete all the labor at a cost to the company of $23,446.51. In addition, $7,876.74 was donated to replace team equipment, items for the playing field, concession stand and electrical services, fixtures, plumbing and toilets and sinks.
"Youth activities such as baseball are an integral part of every youngster's development and we're pleased to be make it possible for the area youth to have an opportunity to participate in a 2006 baseball season as a result of our assistance," said Ted Arneault, Mountaineer's president and CEO.
