CHESTER, WV - CHESTER, WV – Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort is participating in “Racing to
the Rescue”, a national effort to raise funds for
those in the racing industry devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
A weekend of benefit activities is slated for October 8
and 9 with proceeds from those activities designated for
the Racing to the Rescue fund. A project of the National
Thoroughbred Racing Association, “Racing to the Rescue”
will disburse 100 percent of funds raised to established
501 (c) (3) charities.
On October 9 at 1 p.m., benefit performances by area bands
will be featured in the Grande Ballroom. Included among
those performing are U.S. Kids, Legend, Squid,
Chris Denim performing Neil Diamond, George Wagner performing
Elvis and Come Together, a tribute to the Beatles.
Tickets are $20 per person and will be available only at
the door.
On October 8, owners, trainers and jockeys will be asked
to donate a portion of their purse winnings to the Racing
to the Rescue fund. Frequent slot players will also be able
to lend a helping hand to the effort. On October 8 and 9,
frequent players may dedicate a portion of their frequent
player points earned both days to the relief efforts. Forms
designating the points to the charities will be available
at the Frequent Player Departments in both the Downtown
Speakeasy and the Riverside Rooms. Donation canisters will
also be located at those departments.

a good time for a very worthy cause.”
