Mountaineer established the Mountaineer Futures Program
in 1998 to assist graduating seniors at each of Hancock
County’s three high schools. Recipients must be planning
to pursue a degree in a field consistent with Mountaineer’s
general business objectives. Unique to the program is the
opportunity afforded recipients to acquire summer employment
in their field of study at Mountaineer as they work towards
their degree. Upon achieving their degree and meeting scholarship
standards, recipients also have the opportunity to continue
their career with a job in their chosen field at Mountaineer.
Ted Arneault, Mountaineer president & CEO, says the
Mountaineer Futures program is advantageous to both the
recipient and to Mountaineer.
“Scholarship recipients not only receive financial
assistance while in college, they get a jump start on their
careers with summer employment in their field of study,”
said Arneault. “And, upon achieving their degree Mountaineer
has the opportunity to acquire an employee whose job experience
and education are an asset to our business.”
“Too many students graduate from college and have
to leave home to find employment in their field of study,”
said Arneault. “We want to give them a reason to come
back to Hancock County to build a life for themselves –
and we want to make sure Mountaineer has access to employees
who possess both the education and desire to help grow our
business.”
To date, two scholarship recipients who completed their
college education have returned to work at Mountaineer.
Andre Barnebei is employed as Recruiting Manager while Holly
(Robinson) Justice is employed as a Hospitality Systems
Manager.
