CHESTER, WV - Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort
will partner with Breeders’ Cup Limited in the 2005
Breeders’ Cup Stakes program. The program, which includes
over 100 stakes stakes run at 42 separate tracks in the
U.S. and Canada, will feature Mountaineer’s Harvey
Arneault Breeder’s Cup Memorial Stakes and the West
Virginia Senate “President’s Breeders’
Cup.
Both races are held during the West Virginia Derby, slated
for August 14 2005. First post time is 2 p.m. “The
Breeders Cup Stakes program is the racings’ best national
year-round stakes program,” said Rosemary Williams,
Mountaineer’s director of racing. “The very
best horses and jockeys compete for over $22.5 million in
purses and awards in the richest and most inclusive North
American stakes schedule in the Thoroughbred industry.”
Highlighted by more than 75 graded stakes, the program
attracts the top horses at regional levels, many of whom
will compete in the $14 Million Breeders’ Cup World
Thoroughbred Championships on Saturday, October 29 at Belmont
Park. Purses for both featured races will now total $125,000 each.
A six-furlong race on the dirt, The Harvey Arneault Breeders
Cup Memorial Stakes will be open to three-year-olds. The
one-mile turf West Virginia Senate President’s Breeders’
Cup will be open to three-year-olds and up fillies and mares.
Total purse distribution on West Virginia Derby Day will
be $1.5 million.
