CHESTER, WV - A media guide produced by the Public Relations Department at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort received a First Place award from the West Virginia Division of Tourism for its 2003 “Media Guide.” Tamara Pettit, Mountaineer’s director of public relations, accepted the “Stars of The Industry” award for the 92-page, 9X12 publication which was deemed “best collateral piece” at the annual Tourism conference at Stonewall Resort.

Pettit served as Executive Editor of the publication which debuted in July, 2003 prior to the West Virginia Derby. Photography for the full-color glossy publication was provided by Mountaineer’s Public Relations photographer Chuck Saus and Track photographer Ethel Riser. Design and Production was provided by Vance Wright Adams Associates of Pittsburgh, PA with racing research provided by Bill Mooney of Lexington, Kentucky.

The publication not only provides media with comprehensive information about Mountaineer’s racing product, but provides an overview of the destination resort’s offerings. A timeline of historic Mountaineer events provides the reader with a look back at the events which have shaped the racetrack since it first opened in 1951.

“The media guide has proven to be a valuable tool for those reporters who are doing stories on Mountaineer as well as an excellent overview for anyone wanting to familiarize himself/herself with the property and our offerings,” said Pettit.
The publication was not only mailed to local, regional and national media, but to racetracks throughout the nation receiving Mountaineer’s simulcast signal. Members of the West Virginia legislature, governmental officials and community members also were among those who received the publication. Throughout the year the publication is made available to media seeking background information on Mountaineer.

“The publication has been very well received and has proven to be an excellent informational guide for media as well as a great public relations tool for those who want to learn more about Mountaineer,” said Pettit who noted that the 2004 media guide was released in August.
