CHESTER, WV - The opportunity to journey back to the 1960’s
will be afforded those in attendance at “Richard Nader’s
Doo Wop Tour” at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort on October 7. The tour features the Charlie Thomas Drifters,
Shirley Alston Reeves, original lead of the Shirelles, and
the Buck Ram Platters in Tribute to the Platters.
Thomas, along with other Drifter members, Doc Green, Ben E. King and Elsberry
Hobbs, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. The group first
hit the charts with “There Goes My Baby” in 1959 and scored numerous
hits during the Sixties including “Out on the Boardwalk” and “Save
the Last Dance for Me.”
Reeves was the co-founder and lead singer of The
Shirelles. The first single
release, “I Met Him On a Sunday,” written by the Shirelles, was
an instant success. “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” was penned
by super singer/songwriter Carol King and featured in the hit movie “Dirty
Dancing” with Reeves on lead vocal. “Tonight’s the Night,” “Baby
It’s You” and “Soldier Boy” are among those to hit
the charts for the popular group.
The Platters started out in Los Angeles and their
mentor, manager, producer, songwriter and vocal coach, Buck Ram is credited
for much of their success. He
was instrumental in evolving the group into one of the most enduring and lucrative
of all times. Considered the most romantic of all the doo wop groups, The Platters
sold over 80 million copies of songs that included “Only You,” “The
Great Pretender” and “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes.” The concert will be located in The Grande Ballroom and begins
at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 – Gold and $15 – Reserved
and are available through all Ticketmaster locations or on
site at Mountaineer at the Roarin 20’s Player Club. |
