CHESTER, WV – Former amateur superstar and undefeated
professional Verquan Kimbrough will fight for the NABC America’S
Title on July 7th when boxing returns to the Ballroom at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort. The Aliquipa native will take
on Ubaldo “Razor” Olivencial (5-5-2) of New York
City in an eight-round main event. Kimbrough sports an unvarnished
7-0 record as a professional with three knockouts. The fast-rising
featherweight is coming off a four-round decision over Yamin
Muhammed on June 18 in front of a record crowd that saw five
title contests in one night.
An exciting six-bout undercard
will spotlight two newly crowned West Virginia champions.
The always intense Monty Meza-Clay of Rankin, Pennsylvania
will
attempt
to stay unbeaten when he battles James Merriweather in an eight-round bout.
Meza-Clay (11-0, 7 KOs) won a decision over Merriweather earlier
in his career and would
like to add him to the knockout column. Merriweather owns a split decision
win over West Virginia Junior Welterweight Champion Scott McCracken.
Meza-Clay is
the current West Virginia Junior Lightweight Champion. The bout will be a non-title
contest.
Jacy Kuhn will be back in action after a stirring defeat of
Johnny Bailey in the Main Event on June 18. Kuhn was dominant
in the
West Virginia Welterweight
Title bout, and forced the doctor to stop the contest after seven rounds.
The Uniontown native currently sports a 13-1-1 record with
9 KOs and appears to
be on his way to a top ten world ranking. Kuhn will take on Ballroom veteran
Matt
Hill of Baltimore in a six-round, non-title bout.
The new wave of “Ballroom
Prospects” will continue to surface, with
Youngstown’s welterweight prospect Durrell Richardson at the head of
the class. Richardson was the 2002 National Golden Glove Champion and is
a perfect
3-0 with 3 knockouts as a professional. Also featured will be “Irish” Davey
McBride (4-23, 3 KOs) of Salem in a lightweight contest. In a special female
contest, number two ranked Cindy Serrano (5-0, 3 KOs) will compete in four-round
contest.
Tickets for the Ballroom Show are $60 – VIP, $40 – ringside and $20 – reserved
and can be purchased at any Ticketmaster location or on site at Mountaineer at
the Downtown Speakeasy Roarin’ 20’s Frequent Players Department.
