CHESTER, WV - Cheap Trick, whose sound provided the blueprint
for power pop and arena rock, will appear in concert at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort on April 15.
Noted for providing
the necessary links between 60's pop, heavy metal and punk,
Cheap Trick combined a love for
British guitar pop songcraft with crunching power chords
and a flair for the absurd. The bands early albums featured
highly
melodic songs that drew equally from the crafted pop of the
Beatles, the sonic assault of The Who and the tongue-in-cheek
musical eclecticism and humor of The Move and had a long-lived
effect on both alternative and heavy metal bands of the 80's
and 90's.
Superstars in Japan when they toured the country in
1978, Cheap Trick's commercial breakthrough in the United
States
came with their album "At Budokan," recorded
during a live performance. The album captured their loud,
raucous energy and sold over three million copies. A live
version of "I
Want You To Want Me" became their first Top Ten
Hit. Their next album "Dream Police" sold
over one million copies and launched their hit singles "Voices" and "Dream
Police."
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. will be located
in The Harv. Tickets are $25 - Gold and $15 - Reserved
and are available through all Ticketmaster locations or on
site at Mountaineer's Downtown
Speakeasy Roarin' 20's Players Club.
