CHESTER, WV - Unbeaten pro prospect Verquan Kimbrough takes
a huge step up in opposition on April 8 in Mountaineer Racetrack & Gaming
Resort’s Grande Ballroom. Kimbrough will fight in his
first six-round contest when he takes on Terrence Roy of Ripley,
Tennessee. With an impressive 5-2 record as a professional,
Roy is known as a speedy and elusive boxer/puncher. The former
three-time National amateur champion Kimbrough will attempt
to match that speed and power in a test that is coming early
on in his professional career.
The 5-0 Aliquippa native has
knocked out his last three opponents in the first round,
so it believed that this big jump in competition
is needed.
In a co-feature that should provide similar excitement,
Monte Meza-Clay will also risk his professional record when
he
battles tough Harold Cutts of Grand
Rapids, Michigan. Cutts also has an impressive 5-3-1 record and has been
fighting in the highly competitive Detroit area. Cutts has
a six-round decision over
Broderick Harper, the same man that took Meza-Clay into
the fifth round in February with
Meza-Clay scoring a TKO. Meza-Clay is currently 8-0 with five knockouts and
is showing great promise.
In a career that appears to be
on its way to a World Title, Jacy Kuhn will try to improve
on his 11-1-1 record when
he fights Kim Jackson of Indianapolis.
Kuhn
had a highly successful amateur career. Having now turned the corner in
the pro ranks, he seems destined for greatness. The Uniontown,
PA native has
a vast fan
base in attendance at his bouts to support their local hero.
Other favorites
on the eight-bout card will be New Cumberland’s own Johnny "Macho
Midget" Bailey in a six-round contest when he fights tough Gerald
Reed of Lexington, Kentucky. Unbeaten prospect Alphonso "Soldier" Williams
(4-0, 2 KO’s) of Pittsburgh will battle Corey McCants (2-6) of Cincinnati.
Local hero Brian "Mountain Man" Thacker (9-9, 6 KOs) of Galipolis,
Ohio will continue his crowd pleasing style when he brawls with "Killer" Karl
Hunter (1-4) of Cincinatti.
A professional debut anxiously awaited will take place when Durell Richardson
fights his first pro contest after a stellar amateur career. Richardson
is the 2002 National Golden Glove Champion in the 147 lb. Division. The
Youngstown
native
will take on DeWayne Holland of Cleveland.
The undercard gets underway
at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $60 – Platinum, $40 – Gold
and $20 – Reserved and are available at all Ticketmaster locations
or on site at Mountaineer at the Downtown Speakeasy Roarin’ 20’s
Players Club.
