CHESTER, WV - Chubby Checker, the entertainer that started
the dance craze that changed the way America danced, will appear
at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort on September
4.
Best known for his number one hit, The Twist, Chubby Checker
began his career as Ernest “Chubby” Evans in the
mid 1950’s when he began singing harmony with “The
Quantrells.” Within three years Chubby had officially
changed his name to Chubby Checker after Dick Clark’s
wife compared him to a young Fats Domino. He had also signed
a record deal and recorded a song that would become a number
one hit twice in two different years. The Twist’s impact
went beyond being a favorite recording. The new dance changed
the way people would move forever and gave rock n’ roll
its first official dance. The Twist brought dancing couples
apart and free to express themselves.
Chubby Checker went on to provide the teenagers of the 1960’s
with “The Hucklebuck,” “Pony Time” and “Limbo
Rock.” Now touring with “The Wildcats,” Chubby
Checker takes concert goers back to the days when “The
Twist” was the rage with his high energy performance.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be located in Mountaineer’s
Grande Ballroom. Tickets are $25 – gold and $15 – reserved
and can purchased through all Ticketmaster locations or on
site at Mountaineer at The Frequent Players Department, located
in the Downtown Speakeasy.
