CHESTER, WV - The multi-talented Jim Nabors comes to Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort’s Grande Ballroom on October
22 and 23. Nabors, known to many for his immortal role as television’s
bumbling Gomer Pyle, has also enjoyed a career as an easy-listening
balladeer.
Nabor’s career in show business began simultaneously
as an apprentice editor in TV and as a cabaret singer. In 1963,
he was hired to guest star on an episode of the “Andy
Griffith Show.” Although his role as hayseed Gomer Pyle
was originally intended as a one-shot, the character proved
so popular that he went on to become a featured player for
two seasons. In 1965 Nabors received his own spin-off series, “Gomer
Pyle U.S.M.C.”
His singing career was revived during a 1964 guest appearance
on the”Danny Kaye Show” when he wowed viewers with
his rich baritone. Nabors hosted his own variety show, “The
Jim Nabors Show” from 1969 to 1972 while he also managed
an active concert schedule. While touring in a production of “Man
of La Mancha” Nabors popularized the song “The
Impossible Dream.”
Both concerts begin at 8 p.m. Concert tickets are $30 – Gold
and $ 20 – Reserved and are available through all Ticketmaster
locations or on site at Mountaineer at the Downtown Speakeasy
Roarin 20’s Players Department.
